National WoodFloor Consultants developed this calculator to help guide you through some of the problem areas related to high relative humidity conditions. Elevated construction moisture is a wood flooring contractors worse enemy. The general contractor always dictates the flooring installation schedule, usually with less than optimal conditions. Use this calculator with your general contractor to determine the proper timeline of exposure to show how moisture will affect your new wood floor.
Wood flooring being commercial harvested and manufactured today may include both cuts of wood, quarter sawn and plain sawn. Due to this scenario there is no real scientific conclusion of expansion other than approximations.
To use this calculator simply insert the all the required values. Pick category (Oak, Maple, Cherry), Specie (Red, Hard, Black), sawn (type), flooring width, installation temperature, current construction Rh, current flooring moisture content, exposure timeline to elevated Rh conditions. This calculator will give you the project maximum flooring moisture content under those Rh conditions along with a permanent gap size after wood flooring returning to original installation moisture content.
