Inspectors report read:

  • In several areas, the floor was installed with end-joints closer than NWFA guidelines.

  • Due to the extreme amount of end-joint clusters, the inspector recommends partial to full re- placement of the wood floor.

This unhappy homeowner began intensive website research, becoming educated regarding end-joint clustering. They found several websites regarding proper installation techniques and contacted their legal counsel to begin proceedings against the installer.

Guidelines

The 2007 NWFA installation guidelines (Revised 09.2012) indicate that end-joint stagger pattern in adjacent rows should be at least three (3) times the width of the flooring material. This translates that a 3-inch wide flooring should have an end-joint stagger pattern of 9 inches or as material allows.

Guidelines are available under our Documents section of our website as well as more information at www.nwfa.org
